  1. I really enjoyed listening to y'all's podcast. There was a lot of information provided throughout the ten minutes. Joe starts off talking about the use of book clubs and how he would like to incorporate them into his future classroom, challenging the usual scenario of my middle school teachers assigning the dreaded class novel. I also believe that these can be harmful to students because of the negative experiences I have had with them. Standardized testing around a class novel causes unnecessary social and emotional stress when compared to teachers that do book clubs due to them being much more intriguing for sparking a child's passion for reading because they embody a sense of community through their participation. Next, Haley provides good literacy strategies to use alongside book clubs and assigned readings. The subtext and tableau strategy of having students recreating characters from the book was interesting to me because it is an excellent way of getting students to interact. Structuring a classroom around a writer's workshop, I believe, is a great way to get students active with applying the knowledge from what they have read. Jared's journal article sums up the podcast well because it covers the importance of incorporating literacy in different content areas. The article is covering social studies education. Still, you made good points on the benefits that students see in understanding the material when reading and writing are present in content areas outside of language arts. In all, the podcast has a good flow of topics that highlights the effort educators need to be taking in collecting informational text and backing them up with reading strategies so that material is more easily understood.
